We have shifted the focus for our temporary UXR role I posted about a month or so ago. We are now looking for someone with experience facilitating and coaching teams through design thinking. Still a temporary position, starting ASAP, lasting 4-6 months.

Do you want to transform the way students learn? Do you want to practice & teach human-centered design by working directly with technologists, pedagogical experts and teachers? At AltSchool, we believe that great design brings people together. We are looking for a passionate person who shares this vision and is ready to join our band of designers and researchers as we shape the story of AltSchool.  We need someone to understand the aspirations and frames of mind of our customers and facilitate the process to help our cross functional team ideate to find opportunities for innovation. We need someone who can synthesize cross functional inputs, share them back and bring the team along for the ride to ideate around the best solutions and ideas to test. We want to engender deep empathy within our designers, product managers and engineers to better inform the products and services we create.

 

Responsibilities

  • You will help lead our product strategy team through the design thinking process to facilitate cross team alignment, concept generation and prioritization strategies.

  • You will help think of protocols, structures and processes and exercises that help us learn across the company (including but not limited to User Research)

  • You will plan and execute research with teachers & students through interviews, surveys and other sources of data.

  • You’ll synthesize findings into key insights that uncover the mental model of customers.

  • You’ll recommend how our services/products can better connect those mental models to the imperatives of our business.

  • You’ll understand and incorporate complex technical and business requirements into research.

  • You’ll work closely with the product, design and engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience integrating user research into product designs and design practices

  • Practiced in leading teams through the design thinking process

  • Practiced in Generative (creating and validating concepts) and Usability (pressure-testing and refining design solutions) & Usability (pressure-testing and refining design solutions) research

  • Experience incorporating quantitative and qualitative findings into actionable product and process recommendations

  • Strong understanding of strengths and shortcomings of different research methods and experimental designs, including when and how to apply them during each product phase

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills

  • Bachelor’s degree
